Tanzania Wildlife Reserves

Sinya Private Wildlife Conservancy

Sinya provides a unique nature and cultural experience on a private nature reserve bordering Kenya's Amboseli National Park. The sole accommodation the area is Kambi Ya Tembo, a small luxury tented camp which offers spectacular service with magnificent views of Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru, excellent wildlife viewing and cultural interaction with the local Maasai people.

This is one of the few areas in Africa where huge Elephant Bulls, more than 50 years old, carrying tusks of considerable size, are regularly seen. These bulls together with herds of mothers and calves migrate between the swamps of Amboseli National Park in Kenya and the acacia woodlands of the other side of the border up to the forests of Kilimanjaro in search of food and water. These herds form one of the healthiest and most balanced Elephant populations of the whole African Continent.

Wildlife in Sinya is very rich in herbivores like zebra, wildebeest, Thomson's and Grant's gazelle, Maasai giraffe, eland and singular species like lesser kudu and oryx. Gerenuk (giraffe-gazelle) and striped hyena have in Sinya their southern limit of distribution. Predators like lion, cheetah, leopard and spotted hyena although usually shy and elusive, are also present in Sinya. Sinya is also a paradise for birdwatchers.

The Maasai of Sinya
The Maasai are one of the few indigenous people of the World that have reached the XXI century with their traditional culture virtually intact. The Maasai living in Sinya still follow cultural patterns that other tribes abandoned long ago.

At Sinya you will learn about the language and way of a life of some of the last nomadic pastoralists on Earth, visit their "manyattas" (village), play with their children, enjoy singing and dancing or taste a roasted goat the Maasai way.

Your visit will help the Maasai Community of Sinya in different projects : Water pumps, the development of the Primary School and the improvement of the Health Dispensary.

Activities:
Activities in Sinya include game drives in open car, night game drives to see the nocturnal animals, walking safaris escorted by Maasai warriors, interaction with the local Maasai including participation in some ceremonies if they coincide with your visit.
